“Living in New York City, I’ve visited a lot of New York beaches, but had never been to Robert Moses. My parents were visiting from out of town and they wanted to show me the beach and see if it looked the same as it did when they used to go back in the 80’s. The park is located on the western end of Fire Island, off the southern coast of Long Island. It feels like you’re going back in time – I immediately fell in love with its untouched beauty and knew it was going to be my next shoot location.
My friend Britt and I set out to capture some beautiful images in a white mini convertible on a clear sunny day. Since there’s not a lot of parking and public access, most of the areas where we shot we had to pull over on the side of the road and walk at least a mile to each spot. The last location we walked to was breathtaking and magical; since we were the only ones on the beach, it felt like we had the island and dunes all to ourselves. I shot the entire series on my grandfathers Nikon FM 10 35mm film camera.”
